The picturesque Cowichan Valley (Quw’utsun’ or “Warm land”), is the Cowichan People’s way of describing the generous valley, and it is the home of many estate wineries. About 40 minutes drive from downtown Victoria, where sheltered by endless mountains on one side and the Salish Sea on the other, creating a climate microcosm differs from the adjacent nearby areas. This blissful climate offers great opportunity for grape plantation and wine making in the region. Vinters, craft brew masters, distillers, cider makers, food producers, and farmers are all working together to produce some of the most creative and unique food and drink experience ahead.
From an affluent region of agricultural products, to the present acclaimed region of wine production, Cowichan Valley offers a wide variety of vineyards and estate wineries. Since the first commercial vineyard was planted here in the 1970s, the region has exploded with a group of vintners who craft their wines with traditional vinfera grapes such as Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer and Ortega, along with other varietals. In addition to plant some of the traditional grape varietals, you can also find here some taste of unique port style and sparkling wines, cider and exquisite Italian ancient balsamic vinegar. There is also a winery that blends lavender into the wine.
Second only to the Okanagan as British Columbia’s highest producing wine region, the Cowichan Valley welcomes its visitors with unique wine tasting experience ahead. Venturi – Sculze Wineyards: sipping and tasting the ancient style of Italian balsamic vinegar and organic fruit jam, visit the vineyard to observe the wine-making process. Merridale Ciderworks: tasting more bubbly and sparkling apple cider, finely craft pear brandy, you can choose to have lunch in the garden of the apple orchard, enjoy the tranquillity of lakes and mountains. Silverside Farm & Winery: picking blueberries, taste a variety of wine, including blueberry wine, raspberry Wine, blackberry wine and tayberry wine. In addition to the above recommended several of our unique wineries, we can also provide customized services base on your preferences. The Venturi-Schultz Vineyard estate winery was established in 1987 and has a total area of about 7 acres. Here you find purists. The vineyards are planted in the simplest way, without using irrigation systems, without adding any pesticides and herbicides. No compromise in the vineyard or winery. Although this is not the most economical and beneficial way, it is the family’s commitment to produce wines uniquely expressive of its site and of its personalities.
It is worth mentioning that the specialty of this family winery – ancient fermentation of Italian balsamic vinegar (11 years of aging). From raw grape juice to vinegar, the acetic acid bacteria implemented through a natural process of fermentation. Its has rich fruity aroma, moderate acidity, helps digestion, regulates the body’s acid-base balance and has a variety of health functions. It is rich in vitamins and minerals, generates blood production, lower cholesterol, promote blood circulation and its antioxidant ingredients and rich in phenolic compounds. Last but not least, it can maintain the permeability of blood vessels, rich in tannic acid, so that the oil in the dishes can dissolve quickly.
Tours & Tastings: Newly renovated tasting room opened in the summer of 2011. Drop-in tastings and sales from April to December from 10am to 4pm. There is a charge of $5 per person or shared glass covering 5 wines and our balsamic vinegar.
Merridale Ciderworks offers unique ciders from heritage varieties of English and French cider apples. These apples have been used in the cider regions of Europe since hundreds of years ago. Since 1990, this estate apple orchard have been making ciders aimed at a particular palate. The orchard grows a wide range of bittersharp and bittersweet apples allowing the owner to create their distinctive family style products, such as the House, Merri Berri and Traditional are designed to be enjoyed as a glass or a pint, with or without food pairings.
The Cowichan Valley offers the optimum growing and climate conditions which is similar to the world renowned cider regions in the UK and Europe. As with fine wines, you need world-class fruit to make a world-class beverage! As always, all of the Merridale Ciders are made from first pressing 100% pure juice without any artificial Colors and no added preservatives. All the juice are fermented slowing and naturally, to delicately bring out all of the flavour the fruit has to offer. Each year there will be a period of time without irrigation of the orchard, which adds a hint of dry and sweetness flavour to their ciders.
Tours & Tastings: The ciderworks offers a wide option of self-guided and guided tours in their farm or their tasting room. Be their guest and enjoy a great tasting with an incredible meal at their bistro, stroll through the orchards, check out the farmhouse and distillery, and a lot of fun and excitement to come!

游客可以选择在品酒室内品尝精酿的葡萄酒，搭配本地制作的奶酪，这里还免费提供自引导的葡萄园之旅。目前，恩里科酒庄已发布的酒款有十余款，包括恩里科梅洛赤霞珠干红葡萄酒（Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon）和恩里科光辉之甲灰皮诺干白葡萄酒（Shining Armour Pinot Gris）等。此外，酒庄的农场里还有清澈的鳟鱼池塘，池塘边是精美的百花园和野餐区，因此吸引了大量观光游客。
蓝松鸡家族酒庄（Blue Grouse Estate Winery and Vineyard）建立于1977年，最早是一片实验葡萄园，从2012年至今成为一所家族酒庄。葡萄园总面积约为7英亩，种植的葡萄品种包括灰皮诺（Pinot Gris）、黑皮诺（Pinot Noir）、米勒-图高 （Muller-Thurgau）和欧特佳（Ortega）等。其所在的考伊琴湾谷受海洋性气候影响较明显，春、秋和冬季的天气都相对潮湿，夏季却较为温和，有利于葡萄的生长和成熟。葡萄园位于朝阳的缓坡上，有一片冬青树形成的防风林，南面地势开阔，毫无遮挡。葡萄园内的土壤以黏土和砾石土为主。因为有山间泉水的滋润，葡萄园一年四季基本不需要施肥或灌溉。
蓝松鸡酒庄的酿酒师崇尚自然，在酿酒过程中会尽可能保留葡萄天然的风味。成熟的葡萄运到酿酒厂后，会先进行轻微压榨，压榨所得的葡萄汁在槽中冷却。接着进入发酵过程，酒庄会选择性使用苹果酸-乳酸发酵（MLF）、低温发酵和酒泥接触等酿造技艺。发酵结束后，葡萄酒会在不锈钢桶或橡木桶中熟成，陈酿结束后进行过滤和装瓶。目前，蓝威雀酒庄已发布的酒款可分为三个系列：蓝威雀经典系列（Blue Grouse Estate Wines）、翎羽系列（Introducing Quill）和馆藏系列（Library Wines）。
