Vancouver Island is located in the southwest corner of British Columbia (BC), Canada. The island is about 460 km long and 50-80 km wide, with a total area of about 320,000 square kilometers, is the largest island on the west coast of North America. With an approximate the same size as Taiwan island, Vancouver Island only has a population of about 80 million. The Salish Sea is the intricate network of coastal waterways that includes the southwestern portion of the British Columbia and the northwestern portion of the U.S. state of Washington. The total extent of the Salish Sea is about 18,000 square kilometers. The major bodies of open Pacific Ocean water arrives to the southwest of Vancouver Island, and from there, heading inland: to the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and to the southeastern Puget Sound; then heading northwards: to the northern Strait of Georgia; then at the far northern end of that strait, Johnstone Strait. Victoria lies in the inland cross section of the three major intersects.
When summer comes, fishing boats and orca whales gather in the surrounding waters indicate the presence of migrating school of salmon. The annual salmon migrations symbolize the biological richness of the Salish Sea. Born in fresh water, these fish mature in the sea. Each year about five different species of salmon return to the exact location where they were given birth from to spawn their offsprings and to end their life cycle. The Nutrients from their decaying carcasses support plankton which in term feed the hatching fry until they grow into larger smolts. If can take up to two years in the stream, depending on the species, until their offspring returning to the ocean.
The waters near Vancouver Island offers an abundant fishing resort in western Canada. Seasonal ocean currents from the Pacific carrying a lot of organic matter and plankton, which provide nutrients as the food source for these Salish inhabitants. When cold and warm flow intersect at this place, it attracts a lot of creatures to feed. With professional equipment and bait, plus many years of experience as a fishing captain (especially with in-depth understanding on the surrounding waters and fishing ground), we invite every age group to experience the trip.
